About Us

Welcome to Fury Basketball.

The College of West Anglia Fury Basketball club which is based in Kings Lynn, Norfolk was established in 2002 by James Bamfield. A 5 year plan was established on the clubs formation to take the club from area competition to Elite level performance. The model was based around many of the clubs in the UK and used elements of best practice and benchmarking. The basic premise of the club was an elite performance team supported by a community coaching program. The early years where a tremendous success as the club rocketed from Non league to Division 1 in just 4 seasons. However the costs to compete at the elite level were far greater than the revenue generated (35% of clubs in division 1 fold!) it was clear that the model the club was following was not sustainable. Faced with an uncompetetive team and massive debt the obvious option would be to fold the club.

Club founder James Bamfield refused to give up and In 2008 a new 5 year plan was established to promote the development of 'home grown' talent within the club by establishing an elite player performance pathway. Again elements of Benchmarking and best practice from both the UK and US were used to identify how the best development programmes were producing players. The model developed had Under 11 local competitions feeding into U14,16,18 National competition and an Academy program which all led a player from 8 years old until elite level competition at 18 years. In 2008 Fury entered Under 16 national competition and Senior Division 4.
The process of establishing the player pathway had begun.

During the 2009/10 season Fury competed in Senior National League Division 4 & Junior National League at under 18 and 14. By the end of last year running 4 teams it was clear that a model that included 6 club teams was going to be unrealistic given the resources available in Kings Lynn in terms of volunteers, court time, money and the quality of coaching required to produce top level players. So we've adjusted the plan again and have now settled on a system which is both highly ambitious, follows best practice of other top programs and draws on over 20 years of National League experience. Please see our performance pathway page..
Great Fans!
The club always enjoyed tremendous support but the high cost of Lynnsport contributed to the clubs Debt. As part of our 5 year plan we hope to return our elite mens team to a venue were the squad can be supported by the local community.
