College of West Anglia Basketball Academy
The college program has been running for 8 years. During that time it has produced numerous players who have gone on to play top level National League basketball in the UK and now in the US. Why not visit our Academy products page to see where some of them are now.
The Academy is aimed at attracting enthuasiastic, hard working and ambitious players who have the goal of playing Basketball to a high level, be that in the UK or US.
Based at the Kings Lynn campus in Norfolk the Academy program is directed by James Bamfield (see club officers page for more info).
How we aim to develop you as a player (New 2011!)
If selected for the Academy program you will have a weekly PSD meeting with the Head coach who will help to develop your personal player development plan with clear goals and timescales. You will also develop your own Basketball CV which can be used for the recruitment process. He will also help you to develop a career plan away from the court.
On Court
The squad go through on court team based sessions 3 times per week (Mon morning, Tuesday morning & Wednesday afternoon).
On Wednesday afternoons this squad represents the College in British Colleges competition.
Speed strength program (Trialed 2009, Implemented 2010)
Early in your time at the college all athletes are given advice, demonstration and supervision in the planning and execution of a speed strength program to help improve first step, vertical jump and speed. this program is then monitored throughout the year. Athletes undergo athletic and anthrometric testing, last season several athletes tested of the charts for explosive abilities and one player added over 6 inches to vertical jump. Athletes will also be advised on diet and supplementation along with the latest recovery techniques. The program is fortunate the College have invested in the very latest training modalities including vibration technology, resistance jumping and myofascial release.
Motivational coaching & Goal setting
As mentioned earlier each athlete will develop an individual development plan and alongside this they will learn to how to have an achievement oriented approach. We will look at how to problem solve and develop coping strategies as well as motivational techniques and goal setting skills.
